Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a special time of the year to educate users and promote the importance of a secured online environment. According to a recent Microsoft report (2022), the most common causes of cyberattacks are Malware and Phishing, contributing 22% and 20% respectively.
In another SANS 2022 Security Awareness Report, “People have become the primary attack vector for cyber attackers around the world, so humans rather than technology now represent the greatest risk to organizations.”
To avoid security breaches at work and even at home, as remote work continues to be on the rise, here are some basic steps to take to #BeCyberSmart:
- Be alert! Always check the sender’s text message or email address for verifiable contact information.
- Avoid the click baits: Do not click on links or download any attachments unless you have verified the sender.
- Activate multi-level authentication on your sensitive apps and accounts.
- Activate antivirus software and install systems updates as soon as you’re notified.
- Avoid accessing personal and financial data using public wireless network or unsecured links.
- Use the Lock feature on all your devices to prevent unwarranted access to your files.
- If it seem too good to be true and you’re unsure, report it!
